Crime Team: Covid 19 update

These are unprecedented times in the practice of criminal law. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused sudden and dramatic changes to every aspect of our criminal justice system. Technology is being harnessed in ways that will forever transform the way we work.

Here at 7BR we are at the forefront of this technological revolution. Well before the Covid-19 pandemic we invested in cutting edge technology, software and training that places us at the forefront of these new ways of working. All our barristers, from our Silks to our pupils are adept at working remotely and harnessing the latest technology, including MS Teams, LifeSize and all the major platforms. Our clerks and support staff are highly trained and effective in enabling these technologies and in familiarising and supporting our instructing solicitors in their use. We are well versed in the conduct of remote hearings and case-conferencing including the real-time remote, secure consideration and review of large volumes of documentary evidence. We continue to offer pre and post-charge advice in the most serious criminal prosecutions.

Our expertise in the latest technology is recognised at the highest level and our members are working with the Judiciary, with inpidual Crown Courts and with the Ministry of Justice to road-test the functionality of many of these new systems that are being rolled out.

We would welcome the opportunity to give a practical demonstration of the technology to our professional clients. Please contact our senior clerk, Steve Wright, to arrange this. The technology really does make a difference.

In order to assist our professional clients we will also be holding live webinars on a variety of topics of interest to criminal practitioners in the coming weeks.

These are challenging times. We hope that all our professional partners, friends and colleagues remain safe and well.
