7BR members advise individuals and corporations considering or pursuing private prosecutions on their prospects of success, identify and plan prosecution strategies, and provide strong court advocacy. Members also represent those facing such actions, which can be malicious in nature, or represent an abuse of process, with actions often brought in tandem with civil and other criminal or regulatory proceedings across multiple jurisdictions..
7BR members act in private prosecutions from the outset, and in appeals and judicial reviews relating to the decisions made within them. Chambers’ instructions include high value and complex criminal matters, including breaches of international human rights law, international abductions, complex and high value frauds, Intellectual Property and Counterfeiting and related offences, offences against the person and offences relating to animal cruelty. Members appear on behalf of corporates, retailers, charities, financial services institutions and other businesses and individuals.
The extensive prosecutorial experience of 7BR’s criminal silks and juniors, which includes experience of working with the SFO, FCA, NCA, CPS, Insolvency Service, and other agencies is key to the provision of Chamber’s services in these cases. Such experience enables members, in addition to providing strong advocacy services, to provide strategic advice, where appropriate, along the timeline of an investigation, in considering evidential and public interest issues, duties of disclosure, recovery of costs, restraint and confiscation issues, and other ancillary orders/applications.
In addition, many members are qualified to accept instructions directly from clients, being registered under the Bar Council’s Public Access Scheme. In that regard, members of the public who seek specialist advice can therefore enquire directly with Chambers.
