7BR has longstanding expertise in consumer law and consumer contract disputes and members are available to advise in person, by telephone or by video link. Instructions are accepted either from solicitors or from consumer clients directly. Members act for consumers as well as corporate service providers, retailers and insurers.

Members are available to provide advice and representation ranging from modest value claims to very large multi-party group actions involving statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Members are especially well placed to advise on Coronavirus / Covid-19 related disputes including:

  • Travel cancellations and refund claims following the Coronavirus lock down.
  • School Fees disputes following the cancellation of traditional education at private schools in the summer term as a direct result of the Coronavirus emergency.
  • University Fees disputes following the cancellation or suspension of normal services.
  • Childcare cancellations and refund claims.
  • Domestic and cleaning services cancellations.
  • Domestic/social care services cancellations.
  • Cancelled public events and refund disputes.
  • Cancelled private events and refund disputes.
  • Force Majeure clauses
  • Claims for the right to a repeat performance of services under section 55 Consumer Rights Act 2015
  • Claims for the right to a full or partial refund for services that do not conform to the contract under section 56 Consumer Rights Act 2015
  • Claims against credit card or other credit providers under section 75 Consumer Credit Act 1974

As a result of the Coronavirus / Covid-19 emergency there is a particular focus on Force Majeure clauses at present and the extent to which consumers may be held to contractual obligations to pay for services that are cancelled, postponed or delivered in a different way from that intended at the time of contracting.
