Global movement has led to a rise in international families and, when relationships break down, complex international family law disputes arise. 7BR’s family barristers act in international child abduction, leave to remove / relocation, overseas divorce and cross-border financial remedy cases.
Members regularly appear in urgent High Court applications (wardship and the inherent jurisdiction) to locate and reunite children with a parent and to preserve assets worldwide, including freezing and other protective orders. They are experienced in cases under the 1980 Hague Convention, Brussels II Revised (where applicable), the UK-Pakistan Judicial Protocol and related international instruments.
In the financial sphere, the team provides advice in international divorce and family finance disputes involving jurisdiction and forum races, expatriate families, foreign property and businesses, offshore and onshore trusts, and Part III MFPA 1984 claims following foreign divorce.
Members have lectured on child abduction with organisations such as Reunite International and contribute to training on forced marriage and cross-border abuse. They also advise local authorities on interim and permanent overseas placements in care proceedings, and several have particular expertise where family and immigration law overlap.
A member of the Clerking team will help you resolve your request.
