Yasmin Omotosho specialises in professional discipline and regulatory law, family law, criminal law and public inquires.
She represents clients before various regulatory bodies, handling a broad spectrum of cases ranging from interim order hearings to contested fitness to practice hearings, and drafts pleadings and provides strategic advice.
In addition to her disciplinary practice, Yasmin’s experience also extends to high-profile public inquiries, private prosecutions, criminal defence (privately funded and legally aided), and children law matters, reflecting her comprehensive legal expertise across multiple disciplines. Yasmin is currently junior counsel to the COVID Inquiry.
Yasmin has a strong background in financial regulation, having completed a secondment at the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority and is currently serving as disclosure counsel at the Serious Fraud Office in relation to an ongoing investigation.
Her multifaceted experience makes her a sought-after advocate for complex legal issues.
She takes certain cases on a pro bono basis, and in her spare time enjoys mentoring aspiring barristers and volunteering at the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, where she is a Queen Mother scholar.

Yasmin is instructed by both regulators and professionals.
She has extensive experience of professional discipline and regulatory cases. She acts for regulatory bodies and represents clients across a wide range of regulators, including the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Social Work England (SWE), the General Optical Council (GOC), the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the General Medical Council (GMC). She was recently appointed to be panel counsel to act for the Teachers Regulation Authority (TRA). Yasmin acts in and advises on all manner of hearings, including interim order panels, contested fitness to practice hearings, and substantive order reviews. She also drafts pleadings, skeleton arguments and case summaries.
Yasmin’s recent cases include:
- General Medical Council v KS – Representing KS, successfully applied for the hearing to be heard entirely in private and secured conditions where the doctor concerned was under threat of suspension arising from a conviction allegation (following a suspended sentence received for a conviction concerning fraud).
- Nursing and Midwifery Council v JC – Representing JC, successfully resisted an allegation of dishonesty where the nurse concerned was experiencing health issues at the time of the commission of the allegation.
- Health Care and Professionals Council v FK – Representing the HCPC, secured the suspension of a student who was found to have falsified documents and submitted them to their university.
Yasmin accepts instructions to represent regulated professionals in inquests.
Regulatory – Finance
Yasmin is experienced providing support to financial service regulators by way of document review, strategic advice and conducting interviews with people of interest.
She successfully completed a secondment at the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority, where she worked on a widely reported, high-profile investigation concerning international banks. Yasmin is currently instructed as disclosure counsel at the Serious Fraud Office in relation to an ongoing investigation, and has assisted investigators on-site during an executive action that was reported in the media. She is seeking to apply her experience to offshore financial regulatory work and accepts instructions in this area.

In addition to her disciplinary practice, Yasmin’s experience also extends to high-profile public inquiries, private prosecutions, criminal defence (privately funded and legally aided), and children law matters, reflecting her comprehensive legal expertise across multiple disciplines. Yasmin is currently instructed by Baroness Hallett to act as junior counsel to the UK Covid-19 Public Inquiry. She is counsel for Module 7 of the Inquiry, considering the policies and strategies developed and deployed to support the test, trace and isolate system by the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations, as well as the decisions made by key bodies, other options or technologies that were available and factors that may have influenced public compliance.
Yasmin has worked on high profile public inquiries, acting for both the government and core participants.
She was instructed by the Home Office to work on the Undercover Policing Inquiry, where she handled classified material. She has worked on the Infected Blood Inquiry on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care and former DHSC Ministers and Civil Servants, where she provided support to the senior counsel team by conducting extensive document review, drafting witness statements in response to Rule 9 requests and conducting conferences with witnesses.
Yasmin has also been instructed to assist a core participant on the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, where she where she focused specifically on The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM 2015), conducting in depth research into discreet complex issues.

Yasmin has a growing family law practice. She accepts instructions within children law, in both public and private law matters. She has a working knowledge of a range of issues regarding safeguarding and has experience of working within governance concerning the protection of children and vulnerable adults. Her work within professional discipline law presenting cases on behalf of Social Work England compliments this developing area of Yasmin’s practice.
Yasmin’s recent family law work includes being led on an International Child Abduction case and acting for the Metropolitan Police Service in the High Court involving matters concerning Public Interest Immunity.

Yasmin is regularly instructed to prosecute on behalf of international brands and major charities in the production and sale of counterfeit goods and fraud / abuse of position of trust at all stages of proceedings. She accepts instructions to represent individual and corporate victims of fraud, counterfeiting and corporate crime, and offers advice in relation to the particular issues that arise in private prosecutions on prospects of success, presenting and resisting abuse of process arguments, applying for and resisting the issue of a summons and recovery of costs.

Yasmin is an experienced advocate in the defence of a wide range of allegations including fraud, serious assaults, drugs offences and domestic abuse. She undertakes both public and private criminal defence work, defending in the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court, including trial advocacy, sentences, and confiscation proceedings. She is experienced in undertaking road traffic defence, with a focus on putting forward “exceptional hardship” arguments on behalf of her clients.
