Jack Guise accepts instructions across chambers’ core areas. He is developing a strong multi-disciplinary practice in the civil, criminal, and family jurisdictions.
Jack has appeared a number of times in the multi-track in interlocutory hearings, and continues to be regularly instructed in fast track trials. Jack has also undertaken written work in personal injury matters. He has a keen interest in civil litigation and in developing a mixed court-based and paper-based practice. Jack is a member of the Attorney-General’s Junior Junior scheme.
Jack prosecutes and defends in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. He is currently instructed in multiple crown court trials, building on a strong foundation of experience of summary trials and crown court hearings. As well as the CPS, his cases have included acting for the Insolvency Service and SIA.
In family, Jack has been predominantly instructed in private matters. His family work has included matters involving domestic abuse allegations and applications for disclosure into criminal or regulatory proceedings. He is also interested in gaining experience in financial remedy proceedings.
Made a successful application on the morning of a fast track trial to substantively amend the Defendant's defence, and obtained an order that costs would be reserved.
Secured permission to rely on expert evidence where an extension of time was required, despite a failure to provide notice, in the multi-track.
Examples of cases in the small claims track where claims were successfully struck out and costs were awarded on the basis of unreasonable behaviour.
Advised in a personal injury case concerning alleged contributory negligence of a minor.
Persuaded the court to grant three consecutive adjournments on behalf of a defendant in difficult circumstances to enable the defence to obtain instructions and prepare a response to an application for a Criminal Behaviour Order. The instructing solicitor commented: 'I was really impressed with Jack's advocacy...[he] had an excellent grasp of the case and provided some really thorough advice in our conversations.'
Appeared at the sentencing hearing the crown court defending a client charged with category A indecent images offences, securing a suspended sentence and successfully arguing that a SHPO was not necessary.
Prosecuted an assault trial, including a successful application for the admission of bad character evidence.
Acted for the applicant in securing disclosure of material from public family proceedings to the police.
Appeared for the respondent throughout the course of private proceedings in multiple DRAs and final hearing.
Appeared successfully in an application relating to an interim non-molestation order.
Jack studied Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the University of Warwick. He graduated with First Class Honours, which included a First in his dissertation on criminal punishment. He subsequently studied the GDL and the Bar Practice Course at the University of Law in London. He obtained a Distinction and an Outstanding respectively. Jack is a Lincoln’s Inn scholar and was also awarded a scholarship by the University of Law.
Before becoming a tenant at 7BR, Jack worked as a paralegal at Leigh Day. His work focused on large multi-party actions in the High Court. While in this role he presented research to senior partnership members, developed several work processes, and provided training for other teams.
Jack has a wealth of experience volunteering in a legal context. He was a volunteer adviser at Citizens Advice, helping his clients with issues ranging from social security to consumer claims. Jack also volunteered for IPSEA – a charity specialising in supporting parents and young people with law surrounding SEND. Jack was responsible for providing advice and casework support. This included negotiating with Local Authorities and providing representation at hearings.
