Nia Frobisher specialises in clinical negligence, personal injury, inquests & inquiries law. She is ranked as an ‘Up and Coming’ barrister in Chambers & Partners 2025 in both the field of clinical negligence and inquest & public inquiries.
Nia’s clinical negligence and personal injury work encompasses cases of medium and high value. She is instructed by both claimants and defendants. Nia also has significant experience representing interested persons in sensitive and high-profile inquests. She is currently instructed as junior counsel to the Thirlwall Inquiry.
Nia regularly appears in court both in civil matters and at inquests, and is an adaptable and confident advocate. She has appeared in multi-day and multi-week trials and inquests, with and without jury. Alongside her busy court practice, Nia is detailed and strategic in her approach to conferences, written advocacy and advisory work. Whilst most of her instructions are as sole counsel, she is also instructed as junior counsel in very complex and high value claims.
With injured or bereaved clients, Nia brings a compassionate, personable, and sensitive approach. She strives to ensure all clients are supported to enable them to better participate in the legal process, whilst keeping a sharp focus on achieving the best results.

Nia predominantly acts for claimants, but also represents NHS Trusts/Health Boards, individual practitioners and private healthcare institutions. She is regularly instructed in medium and high value matters, attending conferences, hearings, and settlement meetings.
In addition to appearing in court, Nia has a busy advisory and paperwork practice, advising on all aspects of liability, evidence and quantum. She is meticulous in her approach to drafting pleadings. Whilst most of her instructions are as sole counsel, Nia has also been led in a number of very high value and complex matters.

Nia’s clinical negligence practice is complemented by her inquest work which forms a significant part of her court practice and for which she is recognised as ‘Up and Coming’ in Chambers and Partners 2024 and 2025. In this area Nia is regularly in court questioning medical experts and other medical witnesses. Previously Nia undertook public family work in which she was also tasked with cross-examining medical experts.
Nia has previously volunteered for Action Against Medical Accidents and SNAP Cymru. Particularly through her work with SNAP Cymru, Nia has developed a detailed understanding of working with children and young people with additional learning needs and disabilities.
Nia has developed experience in a broad range of personal injury work. She has experience in a range of areas including Highways Act, road traffic accidents, employers and occupiers’ liability, and product liability matters. In this field, Nia is frequently instructed by defendants acting for local authorities, large companies and other institutions, but she also retains a balance of claimant instructions (complementing her largely claimant clinical negligence practice).
Nia is regularly instructed in multi-track matters, attending conferences, interim hearings, case management conferences, trials and settlement meetings. In addition to significant time spent in court, Nia has a busy paperwork and advisory practice, advising on all aspects of liability, evidence and quantum, and drafting pleadings.

Nia is experienced in handling claims where fundamental dishonesty is alleged, having acted both for claimants who have had allegations made against them and for defendants making allegations.

Most, but not all, of Nia’s inquest work is within the healthcare setting. She predominantly acts for bereaved families, NHS Trusts/Health Boards and other health bodies and professionals. Nia has also represented at inquests involving death in custody, those involving accident and misadventure, and inquests relating to unlawful killing. She has acted for housing authorities and the police.
Nia frequently represents in multi-day and multi-week inquests, with and without jury. Many of her inquests engage Article 2 and she has successfully achieved neglect findings for many of her clients.
Nia has been involved in a number of high-profile matters which have resulted in national press coverage. She has also represented at inquest leading to prevention of future death report being sent to the Secretary of State for Health.
Nia has represented numerous families who have suffered the death of a baby or child. The analytical, yet sensitive, compassionate and personable approach she brings to these cases has allowed families to gain the most from these difficult proceedings. She always prioritises seeking answers to the questions the family has and strives to achieve some sense of resolution for them through the coronial process.
Following inquests, Nia is often instructed in subsequent civil claims in common-law and Human Rights Act claims.
