Jasmine brings her previous professional experience to a multi-disciplinary practice across chambers’ core practice areas: Criminal, Civil and Family. She balances court-based advocacy with a busy paper practice.

Before coming to the Bar, Jasmine has previously worked as a Senior Caseworker at the charity INQUEST; in Policy and Standards for the Health and Care Professionals Council; and as an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate. Her experience makes her adept with vulnerable clients, or with cases with particular sensitivities or complexities.

Jasmine has a Master’s degree in Medical Law and Ethics.

She is an assisting lawyer for Not Beyond Redemption, and one of 7BR’s Pro Bono Champions. She is also a member of the INQUEST Lawyers Group and the Court of Protection Bar Association.

Legal Expertise

Civil

Jasmine routinely advises claimants on liability, merits, causation, quantum and settlement. Her carefully drafted pleadings often lead to settlement.

Jasmine’s experience in health and social care fields means that she grasps medical evidence quickly. She is capable with complex causation evidence and confident discussing technical matters practically with experts. Her sensitive manner puts clients at ease.

She has recently been instructed in matters which include negligent delays in diagnosis and treatment; failures in radiological interpretation; negligent dental treatment; psychiatric injury; and fatal claims under the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1934 and the Fatal Accidents Act 1976.

In her complementary inquest practice, Jasmine is experienced in questioning healthcare professionals on their care and treatment. She finds this experience particularly useful when exploring breach and causation in conference with experts.

Personal Injury

In her personal injury work Jasmine represents both claimants and defendants, appearing in fast track trials, small claims, stage 3 hearings and various civil applications in the County Court and High Court. She is regularly instructed to draft pleadings and advise on merit, quantum and settlement.

In her personal injury practice, Jasmine draws on her complimentary practice in clinical negligence. She also benefits from her criminal practice and is praised for her effective cross-examination.

She is a contributor to the APIL Personal Injury Law, Practice and Precedents loose-leaf book, recently editing the chapter on Expert Evidence.

Jasmine is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Court of Protection

Having worked as an IMCA, a Community Advocate and a Paid Person’s Representative, Jasmine is experienced in issues of mental capacity and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

She has frequently worked with, and for, vulnerable people; clients with communication needs or learning difficulties; and those in mental health crisis. She has a practical approach and is particularly adept at explaining complicated legal proceedings in simple terms.

She has recently been instructed in wardship applications; by the local authority in Forced Marriage Protection Order proceedings and in DoLS proceedings.

Jasmine is a member of the Court of Protection Bar Association.

Inquests

Jasmine brings her experience of supporting families at INQUEST into her growing inquest practice. She understands the difficulties that families can face when navigating traumatic inquest proceedings and brings a personable and sensitive approach. She is committed to representing families with compassion and tenacity.

Her complimentary clinical negligence practice is of particular assistance in medical inquests, and she has recently acted in inquests concerning failures to provide appropriate medication; failures to diagnose and delays in obtaining treatment. She also has experience of inquests raising issues of state accountability, such as where the deceased died in prison, police custody, psychiatric hospital or community settings (and including where Article 2 in engaged).

Most recently, Jasmine appeared for the family in a multi-day jury inquest which culminated in a Prevention of Future Deaths report.

She is a member of the INQUEST Lawyers’ Group and accepts instructions on behalf of families.

Crime & Regulatory

Jasmine enjoys a busy criminal practice in which she prosecutes and defends, and regularly appears in Crown and Magistrates’ Courts on both the London and Midlands circuits. She is a Grade 2 CPS Prosecutor.

As well as conducting trials in her own right, she is frequently instructed as junior counsel. In the last year Jasmine was led in two separate murder cases in which the defendants raised the defence of diminished responsibility – both defendants were convicted. Her multi-disciplinary practice was a particular advantage in considering the psychiatric expert evidence. She has also more recently been led as a junior in a drugs conspiracy trial.

She is currently assisting in an offshore investigation into corruption and money laundering.

Jasmine is also increasingly instructed in private prosecutions.

Family Law

Jasmine is regularly instructed within children law, in both private and public proceedings. She acts for local authorities, parents and children via their guardians and has appeared in Fact-Finding Hearings, Final Hearings and in applications at the High Court.

In her private practice Jasmine is regularly instructed in cases which raise allegations of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Her complimentary criminal practice is of particular assistance when dealing with serious allegations.

As an assisting lawyer for Not Beyond Redemption she acts for mothers in prison, assisting them to re-establish contact with their children.

Modern Slavery

Jasmine welcomes instructions in relation to modern slavery and trafficking, especially in cases which engage the sometimes-overlapping areas of personal injury, criminal and family law.
