Matthew Corry was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court this week for Manslaughter, having earlier denied the charge of murdering his mother. On what would have been the first day of the trial, the Prosecution accepted his plea to Manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, following agreed psychiatric evidence in relation to his mental health at the time of events giving rise to the offence with which he was charged. He was represented by Andrew Wheeler KC and Rachel Darby.
Matthew was sent to a secure facility for treatment under the terms of a Hospital Order to which he was sentenced under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act, together with a Restriction Order imposed under Section 41 of that Act.
A more detailed account of the case can be found here.
Andrew and Rachel were instructed by Claire Anderson of ABV Solicitors.
