Maryam Syed secures death by dangerous driving conviction

Maryam Syed successfully prosecuted Ryan Glanfield, 27, on a charge of death by dangerous driving after he left his 18-year old friend Nylo Markham to die following a motorbike crash in January 2019.

Following a 6-day trial, Glanfield was convicted at Luton Crown Court and jailed for 7 years.

The trial heard how Glanfield was driving a stolen moped with Markham as pillion passenger. Witnesses reported the vehicle to be travelling at speed before it crashed into a car. Markham was thrown from the moped and Glanfield suffered minor injuries. Glanfield searched Markham’s pockets before fleeing the scene with both crash helmets.

Glanfield was also disqualified from driving for 8.5 years following his release from prison.
