Ashley Pratt represented the family of Seth Dixon at Boston Coroner’s court which concluded on 25th May 2016. Ashley was instructed by Eleanor Howie of Irwin Mitchell Solicitors.
On 5th December 2015 Seth Dixon had posted a letter on behalf of his mum before attempting to return home and then attend a Christmas fete with his family. Whilst Seth was crossing the road to return home he was struck by an oncoming car.
It was later discovered that the driver of the oncoming vehicle that hit Seth was using her mobile telephone. She was subsequently prosecuted and given a £90 fine and 5 penalty points.
The Coroner provided a narrative conclusion. He said that Seth had died as a result of his head injuries, but the driver of the oncoming vehicle had contributed to his death as she may have been able to stop more quickly had she have not been using her mobile phone.
The inquest has received heightened press coverage, examples of which are below.
