Hanisha Patel is a child and family law practitioner, undertaking a range of both public and private law cases.

Hanisha has built a strong reputation in the area of forced marriage appearing regularly in the High Court and has also represented vulnerable clients in the Court of Protection.

Hanisha has significant experience dealing with cases involving allegations of serious physical and sexual abuse, often involving numerous medical experts.

Hanisha is Chair of the Association of Asian Women Lawyers and her profile appears in the annual edition of ‘Black Letter Law’ acknowledging achievement in the law. She recently represented the AAWL at a panel event at the Palace of Westminster on “Inspirational Journeys of Women shaping careers, Business and society,” where she spoke about her work as a barrister and the support needed for victims of domestic abuse, especially in cases related to honour abuse within the Asian community.

Hanisha is qualified to accept instructions directly from clients and is registered under the Bar Council’s Public Access Scheme, meaning that members of the public who seek specialist advice can come direct to her. Family Law

Hanisha is an experienced advocate who undertakes both private and public law cases. She is instructed to act on behalf of parents, guardians and local authorities.

Hanisha has developed her experience in forced marriage cases and has been instructed on behalf of the police, local authorities and applicants themselves in respect of Forced Marriage Protection Orders and appears regularly in the High Court. Her ongoing multi-party forced marriage caseload includes complex issues involving mental capacity of vulnerable adults and criminal allegations on behalf of child victims of forced marriage.

Hanisha has published numerous articles (Family Law Journal, Journal of Family Law and Practice and Solicitors Journal) on this topic individually and also in conjunction with Rachel Langdale QC, Anne-Marie Hutchinson (Dawson Cornwell) and Jasvinder Sanghera (Karma Nirvana) and has provided training to the police, local authorities and NGO’s including Women’s Aid. In addition, through her role as Chair of the Association of Asian Women Lawyers, Hanisha has been instrumental in organising ‘awareness-raising’ events nationally on forced marriage.
