I am a criminal and family practitioner and have been in practice for 26 years. I am a Grade 4 Prosecutor and on the rape and serious crime panels and defend across the board. I specialise in dealing with vulnerable witnesses and Defendants and mental health issues. In family my particular interest is Child focused private and public law matters. I have sat as a Crown Court Recorder since 2012 across London and the South East and was the first Muslim woman appointed to sit in the Crown Court.

I joined 7BR in 2000 from another set in London whilst I was in the middle of defending Barry George accused of the murder of BBC TV presenter Jill Dando. I was the first Asian woman tenant in chambers, I then started a family and remained practising crime. I carried on with my varied criminal practice having been led by a number of our former eminent silks and now leading a number of our excellent juniors.

I also regularly train lawyers, police social workers and NGOs on aspects of the law sensitive offences including rape, FGM, Controlling and Coercive Behaviour and Forced Marriage. I also comment in the national media when asked to do so.

I would say believe in yourself, work hard for yourself and as part of a team but develop your own practice and take advantage of all opportunities offered.
