Important information to read before you apply for pupillage at 7BR.

  • In 2025, we will offer up to three pupillages to commence in October 2026. Candidates will be invited to express a preference for which year they would prefer to commence pupillage.
  • This year, we will only accept applications for pupillage only through the Pupillage Gateway. The application form and equality and diversity monitoring form must be submitted, through the Gateway, by the relevant deadline. Applications received after the deadline or by any other means will not be considered.
  • Please check your application form carefully to ensure that it contains all relevant material and is accurate. We will not be able to chase you for (or mark you on) any missing details.
  • Unless there are exceptional and verifiable circumstances, which are explained in your application form, we only accept applications from those who have or who are expected to obtain at least a 2:1 in their degree. Proof of your class of degree will be required.
  • All applicants must answer the chambers’ set question. Applications which do not contain an attempt to answer the question will not be further considered.
  • We do not accept applications for deferred, shortened, or unfunded pupillages.
  • We reserve the right to withdraw our offer of pupillage should the required standard in examination results not be achieved or should any of the information provided to us prove to be inaccurate.
  • Competition for places is intense. Over the past few years, we have received up to 300 applications for pupillage each year.
  • From the applications received, a shortlist is drawn up of approximately 50 candidates who are invited for a first round interview. The first round interviews are with two members of chambers. Those candidates invited for a first round interview will be sent a problem question in advance of the interview and will be expected to submit a written answer before the interview.
  • Candidates will then be shortlisted for a final round interview before a panel of members of chambers. Those candidates invited for a final round interview will be provided with a topic to discuss shortly before the interview commences.
  • The three pupillages for 2025 will be offered to the successful candidates after the final round interview. Offers will be kept open for 7 days, after which we may offer pupillage to candidates on a reserve list, if the offer has not been taken up.
  • We operate the Bar Council’s Equality and Diversity Code in relation to members, staff and pupils. 7BR is committed to equal opportunities. We encourage and welcome applications from all sections of society regardless of personal characteristics, and particularly welcome applications from groups under-represented in the legal sector. We take our legal responsibilities regarding reasonable adjustments for disabled candidates seriously.
