Jack Guise continues to develop a strong multi-disciplinary practice in Chambers.
In civil matters, Jack has considerable experience for his call and acts for both claimants and defendants. He has acted as sole trial counsel on the multi-track, conducted many trials on the fast-track, and has experience advising on appeal. Jack thoroughly enjoys dealing with matters of civil procedure, quantum, and costs – he is currently instructed on an appeal relating to a non-party costs order. He continues to provide written work and balances a court and paper-based practice. He has also been instructed to assist on a matter due to be heard for a multi-week trial in the Kings Bench Division of the High Court.
In crime, Jack has experience conducting a number of jury trials in the Crown Court and has recently been led in a 2-and-a-half-week kidnapping trial. He has successfully acted as defence counsel for a number of private clients and, apart from acting for the CPS, Jack has prosecuted cases brought by other bodies such as the Insolvency Service and SIA. He also has experience working for a large corporate client on matters of disclosure.
Jack is a member of the Attorney-General’s Junior Junior scheme, and is a Grade 2 CPS Prosecutor.

P v A Local Authority
Acted for the Defendants in a multi-track personal injury case. Successfully applied for leave to rely on a pleading which the Claimant averred had been conceded in pre-litigation correspondence, and secured a favourable costs order.
S v MOJ
Acted for the Claimant in a multi-track trial concerning a prison's liability for personal injury caused by inmates to another, which included cross-examination of five Defence witnesses over two days.
R v (1) N (2) A Local Authority
Acted for the Defendants in this commercial matter. Successfully applied for the claim, worth over £30k, to be struck out as an abuse of process on the day of trial, and secured a costs order of £10k.

Appeared successfully for the Claimant at a fast-track trial in a personal injury matter after securing dismissals of the Defendant's applications to strike out the claim under the Henderson v Henderson rule, and an application to adjourn.
W v MOJ
Acted for a deceased Claimant in a fast-track trial relating to an approved premises' liability for personal injuries caused by a resident.

Made a successful application on the morning of a fast track trial to substantively amend the Defendant's defence, and obtained an order that costs would be reserved.

R v R, A et al
Appeared led by Kate Temple-Mabe prosecuting this kidnapping trial relating to the joint enterprise between two defendants and four who had pleaded guilty.

Examples of two successfully prosecuted cases concerning assault occasioning actual bodily harm and the latter also criminal damage.
R v C
Persuaded the court to grant three consecutive adjournments on behalf of a defendant in difficult circumstances to enable the defence to obtain instructions and prepare a response to an application for a Criminal Behaviour Order. The instructing solicitor commented: ‘I was really impressed with Jack’s advocacy...[he] had an excellent grasp of the case and provided some really thorough advice in our conversations.’

Appeared at the sentencing hearing the crown court defending a client charged with category A indecent images offences, securing a suspended sentence and successfully arguing that a SHPO was not necessary.

Prosecuted an assault trial, including a successful application for the admission of bad character evidence.

Jack studied Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the University of Warwick. He graduated with First Class Honours, which included a First in his dissertation on criminal punishment. He subsequently studied the GDL and the Bar Practice Course at the University of Law in London. He obtained a Distinction and an Outstanding respectively. Jack is a Lincoln’s Inn scholar and was also awarded a scholarship by the University of Law.
Before becoming a tenant at 7BR, Jack worked as a paralegal at Leigh Day. His work focused on large multi-party actions in the High Court. While in this role he presented research to senior partnership members, developed several work processes, and provided training for other teams.
