Before coming to the Bar, Caroline worked as a caseworker at INQUEST. In her role, Caroline helped families make successful submissions in relation to Article 2 and supported them through the lengthy process of investigations and the inquest.
Caroline also worked as a caseworker for Advocate (the Bar’s pro bono charity) where she assisted individuals seeking legal advice and representation across all areas of law, with a focus on employment and family law cases.
Prior to pupillage, Caroline was awarded a major Gray’s Inn scholarship and was also the winner of BPP’s Advocate of the Year competition.
Caroline is particularly keen to develop her inquests practice.
In her role at INQUEST, Caroline helped families make successful submissions in relation to Article 2 and supported them through the lengthy process of investigations and the inquest.
Caroline worked on cases spanning the full range of coronial investigations – from community mental health deaths and those under section to those in prison and police custody, including restraints and police shootings.
Caroline’s understanding of the legal systemic issues that inquests engage, alongside her empathetic approach ensure that she puts clients at ease from the outset.
Caroline is growing her family practice and has been instructed on final hearings and worked on interim and final care orders under her supervisor.
Caroline accepts instructions in private and public children matters. She acts for parents and the local authority. Caroline often appears in directions hearings and has experience cross-examining parties in final hearings.
Caroline welcomes instructions in fast-track and small claims matters.
Caroline accepts instructions in all matters relating to personal injury and associated litigation for claimants and defendants. With regard to quantum, Caroline has been successful in achieving ‘part 36 consequences’ in MOJ Stage 3 hearings. Caroline has acted with success in liability trials.
Caroline has prosecuted lists on behalf of the CPS and undertaken defence trials in the Magistrate’s Court.
Caroline has experience covering hearings in the Crown Court and is keen to expand her practice in prosecution and defence in both the Magistrate’s Court and the Crown Court.
Caroline’s experience at Advocate where 50% of her caseload was employment means that she is familiar with the issues employment law engages. Caroline welcomes instruction for preliminary hearings and final hearings.
