7BR’s Collingwood Thompson KC and Daren Samat were recently successful in the Court of Appeal, in the case which the media dubbed the ‘Tik Tok murder trial.’

Collingwood and Daren were instructed to prosecute in both the trial and the subsequent re-trial of this high-profile multiple defendant double murder case. Since the re-trial, three of the defendants who had been convicted of the lesser offence of manslaughter challenged their convictions citing the recent case of R v Auriol Grey [2024] EWCA Crim 487 and the learned trial Judge’s alleged failure to identify a “base” offence in his written legal directions for manslaughter.  The appeal case called for carefully drafted written skeleton arguments augmented by strong oral submissions made to the full Court of Appeal, who in turn dismissed the three appeals against conviction.

At the same hearing the Court also heard and dismissed the sentence appeal of Ansreen Bukhari, one of those convicted of two counts of murder.
