Mass was instructed by Madeline Nugent of Irwin Mitchell in this six-day inquest (over three sittings) to represent the family of Aleisha Marie Rochester who sadly died at just 33-years-old after a skin infection developed into sepsis and multi-organ failure. The Coroner reached a narrative conclusion which included (inter alia) that Ms Rochester “should have been, but was not, prescribed and administered antibiotics which provided coverage against a Gram positive pathogen” and that the “surgical team should have consulted the Microbiology Team”.

The Coroner’s narrative added that if such steps were taken, Ms Rochester would have been given appropriate antibiotics and “it is more likely than not that Ms Rochester would have survived” and found that the death was contributed to by Neglect.

Mass has been ranked for his work on Inquests and Inquiries in the 2025 and 2026 editions of both of the leading legal directories – as a ‘Rising Star’ by Legal 500 and as ‘Up and Coming’ by Chambers and Partners. He is described in the leading directories as being “wise beyond his years”.

Mass has acted in inquests where the nature of the deceased person’s death prompted an investigation into the possible role of clinical negligence; the improper conduct of law enforcement resulting in death; failures into custodial settings and the negligence of care providers resulting in the death of patients detained under the Mental Health Act.
