On the 8th of November, a trial for the murder of 18-year-old Abdirahim Mohammed in Leicester resulted in four murder convictions, two manslaughter convictions and two convictions for assisting an offender. The prosecution of Op Ravel was led by James House KC and Daniel Bishop.
The deceased had stolen the defendants’ car, cash and mobile phones in a bid to take over their drug dealing operation, escalating a gang turf war. He was lured to an address in Highfields, Leicester, on the pretence of undertaking a drug deal and from here, the defendants chased and attacked him with knives, a baseball bat and a wheel brace. He suffered a fractured skull and seven stab wounds, a severed leg artery and a punctured lung. He was dead within two hours of the attack.
The defendants fled the scene, but the police were able to piece together events surrounding the robbery, the killing and the defendants’ escape using relevant CCTV footage, mobile phone calls, cell-site information, social media materials, eyewitness accounts and forensic evidence.
Eight defendants were sentenced to terms totalling 144 years imprisonment.
