On the 1st of September 2019, Archie Batten was born at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (QEQM) Hospital in Margate, Kent. After a series of missed opportunities and a prolonged labour over a 10-hour period, Archie died 27 minutes after delivery. The Inquest into this death ended on 10th June in Maidstone with Her Majesty’s Assistant Coroner for North Kent Sonia Hayes concluding that his death was caused by neglect, stating that the hospital’s “failures amounted to gross failures to provide basic medical treatment.”
Richard Baker was instructed by Nick Fairweather at Fairweathers Solicitors LLP, both of whom represented the family pro bono over the 11-day inquest. You can read more about the case conclusion on Fairweather’s website here.
