Elaine Banton of 7BR is representing Semhar Tesfagiorgis in a race and sex discrimination claim in the Employment Tribunal against Crown London Aspinalls, a private casino based in Mayfair. Ms Tesfagiorgis was a dealer/inspector at Aspinallls casino. From as early as 2017, Ms Tesfagiorgis raised concerns to Aspinalls about a race related incident that occurred. In 2019, Ms Tesfagiorgis raised another complaint about an incident in which a patron sought a ‘fair-skinned dealer’ rather that Ms Tesfagiorgis, to which the casino responded by providing a white male dealer. In her witness statement, Ms Tesfagiorgis stated that Mr Branson, the managing director of Crown, the company that owns Aspinalls, questioned her on whether he should ‘turn away a million-pound customer’. The tribunal was adjourned until Wednesday 13th and 14th October 2021. The judgment was reserved.
