In R v F, Alex was instructed to defend a man accused of trafficking a teenager overseas for exploitation. The indictment period spanned a year and three months and there was extensive prior relevant history, which added complexity to the case. The defence case was prepared thoroughly and included identifying and calling evidence from a number of witnesses overseas. Over the course of the seven day trial, Alex exposed substantial inconsistencies and untruths in the prosecution’s case, and the defendant was unanimously acquitted by the jury after only a short period of deliberation. Alex has extensive expertise in prosecuting and defending modern slavery offences, and appeared in the Court of Appeal in the leading forced labour case of Rooney [2019] 2 Cr. App. R. 32.
