Adrian Langdale QC successfully prosecuted Joseph Quigley, who at the time held the position of national education co-ordinator for the Catholic Church (overseeing hundreds of Catholic Schools nationally and carrying out inspections), for historic abuse of a sadistic and sexualised nature carried out against a child parishioner whom he was tutoring. The case involved a complex Bad Character argument in relation to a second victim against whom similar sexual and sadistic abuse was systematically carried out over a number of years, but in relation to whom, legal reasons meant that those offences could not of themselves be prosecuted. The case also involved questions of how much was known by the Church of the abuse against the first victim in time, and what if any steps were taken to prevent the abuse of the second victim.
The case has received news coverage and can be viewed here and here.
