Susannah Johnson represented 28 of the survivors in the Lambeth strand of The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, which investigated whether there were child protection failures by Lambeth Council and other public authorities. The Inquiry heard evidence concerning serious sexual abuse which took place over decades in children’s homes run by Lambeth Council, including the Shirley Oaks Children’s Home. There was also evidence that there had been 48 deaths linked to the homes between 1970 and 1990.
The hearing has now concluded and a report is expected in summer 2021. A BBC report which refers to Susannah’s closing submissions can be viewed here.
