The conclusion of the inquest into the death of double amputee Janet Prince was heard on Friday, 14 February 2020 at Nottingham Coroners’ Court, where Ross Beaton represented the family.
The inquest covered an 18 month period from a hospital admission, during which the deceased developed serious pressure sores as a result of being left on an unsuitable mattress for an extended period, through to her ultimate death from complications of those sores.
It raised issues of basic nursing care, in respect of which the Coroner found neglect on two aspects. It also raised complex issues of diagnosis and causation, requiring evidence from multiple specialists in different disciplines. Having heard the evidence, the Coroner was concerned that inadequate nursing practices remained in place at the hospital. He therefore issued a Report to Prevent Future Deaths.
