Mini-Pupillages

We have now reached capacity for Mini-Pupillages from October 2011 to September 2012.

Applications for Mini-Pupillage from October 2012 to September 2013 will again be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and are invited from 1 May 2012.

All applications and CVs should be sent to minipupils@7br.co.uk

Applications before 1 May 2012 will not be considered. Please follow the guidance below when making your application.

If you have left school and are interested in a career as a barrister, we may be able to offer you a 'mini-pupillage', which is a unique opportunity for you to gain an insight into the day-to-day work of a barrister.

What is involved?

Our mini-pupillages will last for one week, will be unfunded and are not formally assessed.

Mini-pupils are normally expected to be available between 9am and 6pm each day. Efforts will be made to minimise the extent to which a mini-pupil will be asked to travel to court. Normally, a London-based mini-pupil will be allocated to work in the Greater London area. However this cannot be guaranteed as our chambers work covers a wide geographical area. It may be possible to arrange a mini-pupillage in the Midlands, depending on your location and the workload of members.

Qualifications

All candidates must be aged 18 or over, and should (a) have completed the equivalent of three A-Levels to Grade B standard, or (b) be enrolled on a degree course or (c) have graduated (in any subject).
All mini-pupils will be expected to sign a confidentiality agreement.

How to apply

Mini-pupillages are allocated on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability and to meeting the minimum age and qualifications requirements.

Applications should be made by email, with covering letter and curriculum vitae to :
minipupils@7br.co.uk

Applications made by any other method will not be considered.

The covering letter should set out :

  • - the reasons for applying to 7 Bedford Row, indicating any areas of chambers' practice which are of particular interest.
  • - should state whether a London or Midlands based mini-pupillage is preferred.
  • - should include your availability dates.

Note :
As our mini-pupillage scheme is oversubscribed and availability is very limited over the summer holidays, it would be a good idea to telephone Mark Waterson (020 7400 4430) in advance to ascertain whether the period you are interested in is still available. As applications can take a little time to process, the fact that a place is available at the time you telephone is no guarantee that a place will be offered once your application has been processed.
