Application Procedure

All applications for 12 month pupillages must be made through OLPAS in the summer season of applications (usually carried out between March and July each year), for pupillages due to commence in the October of the following year.

When you fill in the OLPAS application form, you should bear in mind our requirements and the selection criteria upon which you will be marked (please select the appropriate links for more information). You should familiarise yourself as far as possible with the work of Chambers and take advantage of the helpful information available on the Bar Council’s website, in particular the pages concerning pupillage to be found at www.legaleducation.org.uk.

We operate the Bar Council’s Equality and Diversity Code in relation to members, staff and pupils. We welcome applicants regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, race, marital status, religion or political persuasion. We encourage applications from those groups who are under-represented in chambers.

Competition for places is intense. In 2007 we received over 600 applications. From these applications a list is drawn up of approximately 60 candidates who will be invited to attend for a first round interview in early July. Approximately twelve of those candidates will be short listed for a final interview before a panel of members of chambers later in July.

Up to three pupillages will be offered to the successful candidates after the final interview in accordance with the OLPAS timetable.
