Regulatory and Disciplinary Proceedings

Members of 7 Bedford Row of all levels of seniority are frequently instructed to appear before disciplinary and regulatory tribunals and judicial review proceedings arising out the decisions of those tribunals.

In the medical field our work has included appearances before the General Medical Council, General Dental Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health Professionals Council, Royal Pharmaceutical Society Disciplinary Committee, General Chiropractic Council and British Acupuncture Council.

In the financial field members have prosecuted and/or defended before the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy, and the Financial Services Authority.

Members have also represented solicitors, architects, surveyors, veterinary surgeons, police officers and other professionals before their respective professional bodies in disciplinary proceedings.

In the field of education and social care members have appeared in local authority disciplinary hearings, the Care Standards Tribunal, the Special Educational Needs Tribunal and internal local education authority appeals.

In cases in which there is an interrelationship between disciplinary proceedings, criminal prosecutions and civil claims, 7 Bedford Row has members with experience at all levels of seniority who are able to advise on the strategy and tactics to be adopted on all issues, including disclosure and the staying of proceedings. In substantial cases teams of barristers with experience in all areas can be created.
