Public Sector Liability
Building on our long-standing reputation in the fields of child law, local authority liability and clinical negligence, members of 7 Bedford Row have wide experience in cases which concern the functions and powers of local government and health bodies.
We have appeared before the Care Standards Tribunal and in appeals to its decisions bought before the High Court.
In the field of education law, we deal with all the issues that can arise at each stage of the education process. These include admissions policy, discrimination, and disciplinary matters including exclusion. We undertake appeals to the Special Educations Needs and Disciplinary Tribunal (SENDIST) and related judicial review work. Claims concerning educational negligence are a particular area of expertise.
Members of Chambers are also instructed in relation to licensing matters under the Licensing Act 2003. Another aspect of our local government work is election law. Members have experience of cases concerning local government election petitions to the High Court.
Members also deal with medical ethics cases including those involving treatment decisions and mental health patients. We have appeared at Mental Health Review Tribunals.
