Inquiries

A prominent feature of our public law work has been our participation in statutory and non-statutory inquiries. In the past two decades, members of these Chambers have been involved in many of the most high profile cases. These include inquiries into major disasters (the King's Cross Fire; Hillsborough); incidences of child abuse and failures to protect (North Wales Child Abuse (Waterhouse) Inquiry; The Leicestershire Inquiry; Victoria Climbie); the actions of state agents (The Bloody Sunday Inquiry; The Robert Hamill Inquiry); failures in the health care system (The Kerr/Haslam Inquiry); and police vetting and intelligence handling procedures (The Bichard Inquiry).

Our expertise extends to "homicide" inquiries [formerly instigated under HSG 94 (27)] and Part 8 Reviews under the Children Act 1989.

Members have chaired inquiries, appeared as counsel to the inquiry and acted for interested parties. We are familiar with the operation of the Inquiries Act 2005 and the Inquiry Rules 2006.
