William Coker QC invited to speak at international seminar in Beijing

William Coker QC has been invited to speak at an international seminar organised by the Criminal Legislation Department of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National Peoples Congress of China. He will also be chairing the second day of the seminar.
The subject of the seminar is "Enhancing the Protection of the Rights of the Suspect and Defendant in the Criminal Justice Process". The aim is to assist in a proposed reform of the Chinese criminal justice system. The seminar will be attended by Chinese prosecutors, academics, judges and defence lawyers. William is one of a number of European lawyers invited to speak on how their domestic law and the ECHR have approached the rights available after arrest and the exclusion of evidence obtained unfairly, for example by torture.
