Craig Carr - Pro Bono work in Namibia
3 April 2008
Craig Carr has recently returned to practice from volunteer work in Namibia where he was carrying out research for the World Bank and pro bono work on behalf of Lawyers Without Borders (LWOB), the international NGO which supports and promotes the international development of the rule of law.
Craig carried out neutral observations of the ‘Caprivi Trial' at Windhoek prison where 130 defendants, all from the Caprivi strip, are being tried on charges including high treason and murder following an alleged uprising by a separatist army in the Eastern Caprivi in 1998-1999.
For the World Bank, Craig researched Namibia's business and regulatory environment. He interviewed several industry leaders, bankers, accountants and lawyers to examine local banking and labour laws, contract enforcement, investing in property and local methods of obtaining and securing credit.
