Barristers of all levels of call at 7BR have significant expertise at inquests and regularly appear in the coroner’s courts. Two of our members are assistant coroners. There is a particular emphasis on deaths resulting from clinical negligence or malpractice where members are instructed by bereaved families, NHS Trusts or individual medical practitioners. Members also regularly act in inquests where Article 2 is engaged, and in cases involving medicines and defective medical devices. Other types of inquests include deaths at work, in custody, arising from defective products or involving the military, inquests involving local authorities, and arising from RTAs.
Members of chambers are currently instructed on a number of inquiries including the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and the Pitchford Undercover Police Inquiry. Other high profile cases have included the inquest into the shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes and the inquests arising from the Bristol pediatric heart surgery failings. Inquests in which members of chambers appear are regularly reported in the press.
