Tom practises predominantly in crime with an emphasis on serious crime, fraud and money laundering. Prosecuting and defending in equal measure, he has extensive trial experience, including the calling and cross-examining professional witnesses and experts giving complex evidence, including accountants, surveyors, forensic scientists and medical experts.
Tom's practice includes a large amount of 'quasi-criminal' work. Drawing on his civil and criminal background, Tom has extensive experience of POCA cash seizures cases (for both police and respondents), closure orders and banning orders. He has acted as independent counsel reviewing material for Legal Professional Privilege during searches by the Metropolitan Police. He has conducted section 2 interviews in the investigation of serious fraud.
For the first six years of tenancy Tom maintained a mixed civil and criminal practice, encompassing personal injury, employment and professional negligence. Paperwork featured prominently in his practice, including pleadings, advising on liability, quantum and evidence and schedules/counter-schedules. He gained wide experience of tribunals including Inquests, Prison adjudications, Employment tribunals and County Courts (Fast Track and Multi-Track).

- R v Brook & Fraser (2009 - trial ongoing): Second junior instructed by the SFO in the prosecution of an alleged £250 million investment fraud.
- R v Alder (2008): prosecution junior in the trial of a fake MI5 spy convicted of fraud, blackmail, deception and firearms offences.
- R v Hilton (2006):prosecution junior in the murder trial of a man convicted of strangling his girlfriend.
- R v Hudson & Ors (2005): "The family from hell" - defence junior for one of a large family guilty of murdering the young wife of a family member.
- R v Nwadwika-Jonathan & Wogu (2004): prosecution junior in CPS HQ/Metropolitan Police Anti-Corruption Command's prosecution of a corrupt police officer.
- R v Ian Huntley & Maxine Carr (2003): "The Soham murders" - second junior counsel for the defence of Ian Huntley.
- Instructed by the Attorney General of Jersey to assist in the investigation of an international money laundering case.
