Rachel Langdale QC is described by clients as "a stylish and persuasive advocate", who "takes a very inclusive, team approach", and is "easy to work with". She undertakes Public and Regulatory work, and Children cases, particularly where medical issues are involved. She is currently instructed as leading counsel for the South Staffordshire P.C.T. in the Inquiry into the operation of the commissioning, supervisory and regulatory bodies in relation to the monitoring role at mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Rachel has considerable experience in advising local authorities upon a variety of legal issues, such as the use of the inherent jurisdiction and wardship; safeguarding procedure and practice; serious case reviews; judicial review; applications of policy and the provision of services; and placement of children abroad or in circumstances where the risk is such as to require protective orders to be made. She is acutely aware of the pressures faced by public authorities.
In acting for parents in family proceedings, Rachel has experience of administrative law challenge; human rights issues and immigration procedure. Her specialist medico-legal experience is frequently called upon for cases that involve issues such as genetic testing, induced illness and the medical treatment of children. She has acted in relocation cases involving the Hague Convention and Brussels II Revised Regulation. She is adept at obtaining the oral testimony of children where necessary, and is particularly interested in the importance of this issue within family proceedings.
She is experienced in advising in respect of statements to the media, in applications to permit the reporting of family proceedings, and is able to advise upon the need (or otherwise) for anticipatory injunctions to be obtained in certain cases.
She has undertaken work in the Care Standards Tribunal, and provides a committed service to those she represents. Rachel writes upon her areas of expertise, is recognised as a leading children silk in Chambers and Partners 2011 and is Head of the Child and Family Law Team at 7 Bedford Row.
