Kathryn joined Chambers in 2010 after successfully completing her pupillage. Her pupil supervisors were Tim Walker and Graham Huston.
After graduating from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where she won the Sir William McNair Mooting Award, Kathryn spent time working with regional NGOs in the Philippines as an intern to the Centre for Capital Punishment Studies. On completing her Masters Degree in Public International Law at the London School of Economics, Kathryn spent a number of years working for the South East Asia team at Amnesty’s International Secretariat in London. Kathryn is an Astbury Scholar of the Middle Temple and in 2009 was awarded Middle Temple’s Chrystal MacMillan Award.
During her pupillage Kathryn spent time working with senior members of Chambers, gaining a wide experience of criminal, civil, employment, commercial and family practice.
Employment
Kathryn has a particular interest in employment law. She ganied a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area during her first six months and is steadily building on this area of her practice. She is regularly instructed to appear at the Employment Tribunal in claims involving unfair and constructive dismissal, discrimination and TUPE for both Claimants and Respondents.
Criminal
Kathryn’s criminal practice encompasses both Crown and Magistrates’ Court work. In the Crown Court she has appeared in numerous plea and case management hearings, preliminary hearings, bail applications, POCA hearings, sentencing hearings and disclosure hearings involving defendants charged with a broad spectrum of offences including robbery, burglary, serious sexual offences, drugs offences, assault and abduction. She has prosecuted on behalf of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
In the Magistrates’ Court Kathryn has represented numerous defendants at trial for various offences including robbery, witness intimidation, dangerous driving and public order offences. She has also prosecuted on behalf of the CPS.
Civil
On the civil side, Kathryn has appeared for Claimants and Defendants in a large number of small claim trials, interim applications, case management hearings and infant settlement hearings. Kathryn has also spent time in the family courts acting for applicants in ex-parte non-molestation and occupation order applications and contact order applications and conciliations. On commercial matters she has appeared in the High Court of Justice Chancery Division and the Companies Court.
