Jonathan is a common law and criminal law practitioner.
His criminal practice is focused almost exclusively on the Crown Court. He is a Grade 2 Prosecutor on the London CPS list and a Grade 1 Prosecutor on the Midland Circuit.
He has a particular interest in cases involving financial crime and drugs.
Jonathan has been instructed by the Serious Fraud Office and was also heavily involved in the successful prosecution of one of the largest ever importations of cannabis resin into Jersey (2006). He has experience of all violent crimes, threats to kill, offences relating to property (including arson), driving and dishonesty offences. He was defence junior in R v Hind (2006), a murder where he was led by Yvonne Coen QC.
In his civil practice, Jonathan undertakes cases in a wide variety of areas: employment, contractual disputes, construction, personal injury (claimant and defendant), and clinical negligence (claimant and defendant).
In respect of employment work, Jonathan has conducted a large number of tribunal hearings ranging from one to five days, concerning matters such as unfair dismissals, mass redundancies, and discrimination claims. He has appeared in the EAT.
He has extensive experience of working offshore in Jersey with 7 Bedford Row's alliance partner BakerPlatt and with Ogier, a firm of Jersey advocates.
Key Cases
- Multi-million Euro construction dispute: instructed by BakerPlatt to advise upon and act for a four star hotel, which is in dispute with its works contractors and its project management company. The dispute concerns the quality of work and delay in completion of the redevelopment of a fire-damaged wing of the hotel. The litigation is taking place in Zurich (ICC Arbitration), England and Jersey
- £450,000 importation of cannabis resin: advised on and prepared the successful prosecution of a nine-handed importation of cannabis resin into Jersey. This case involved analysis and co-ordination of evidence from Jersey, England and France

Presentation of an unfair dismissal claim out of time. Incorrect advice from a trade union official as to the relevant time limit was not a sufficient reason for extending time.
