Called in 2003 Jonathan’s criminal practice is primarily focussed upon the Crown Court where he has undertaken numerous trials. He is a Grade 2 Prosecutor on the South Eastern Circuit and a Grade 1 on the Midland Circuit (he is to apply for re-grading in 2009).
Jonathan has conducted trials concerning allegations of all forms of serious violence, property, drugs and driving offences. He was junior counsel for the defence in the prosecution of R v Kevin Hind (2006). He has applied for and opposed various consequential orders such as confiscation and compensation orders.
In 2008 he was instructed by the Attorney General of Jersey, via Baker Platt, to assist with disclosure and the preparation of the trials in the prosecutions arising from the Jersey Historic Abuse Enquiry “Haut de la Garenne”. In 2006 he was instructed by the Attorney General of Jersey, via Ogier, to advise and prepare a 9 handed conspiracy to import £450,000 of cannabis resin into Jersey.
Jonathan has been instructed by the Serious Fraud Office on an ad-hoc basis to advise upon disclosure and legal professional privilege.
Jonathan has conducted private prosecutions on behalf of the Job Centre Plus and he has defended in a contested R.S.P.C.A. prosecution.
