Jeffrey has wide experience in fraud and cross-border aspects of commercial and regulatory litigation.  Jeffrey has acted in many civil fraud cases in a variety of industries.  

Recently he acted  for a well-known financial institution in respect of an application for a freezing order against foreign nationals in a €9 million carbon trading vat fraud.   He represented the defendant in an alleged shipping fraud involving the falsification of a bill of lading relating to a cargo held in Shanghai Mediterranean Shipping Co v OMG Ltd).  He successfully acted for a Greek agent in a €12 million  construction dispute relating to a construction project for the Doha games in which the agent was accused of breach of fiduciary duty (TS Global Ltd v DS Steel SA)

Jeffrey also frequently deals with conflicts of laws and jurisdicitonal issues as part of his practice.  Recently he acted for a large French financial institution on the enforcement of € 21 million loan to a Greek Company. He also recently advised a Spanish financial institution on the effective exercise of an early repayment option in €12 million 15 year denominated curve steepness deposit agreement.

In the Regulatory field Jeffrey prosecutes for the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in cases that frequently involve fraud or other wrong-doing by financial officers in the public  sector.  He also advises the Jersey FSC in respect of aspects of its enforcement powers and policies.

In the field of civil recovery, Jeffrey represented one of 8 respondents from whom the Director of SOCA was seeking a civil recovery order following a multi million pound MTIC  fraud. The case involved the proceeds of fraud being transferred to Dubai and allegedly being laundered through a variety of BVI companies and properties transactions in the UK (SOCA v Sajad & Others).  He provides training to solicitors in this field and recent topics have included:

  • Civil Recovery under the Isle of Man Proceeds of Crime Act 2009
