Caroline joined chambers in 2011 after successful completion of pupillage. Her supervisors were Hugh Preston and Luke Blackburn.
Caroline read law at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. After graduating she won a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship and spent a year in Hong Kong where she completed a masters degree predominantly in international finance and business law.
Before joining chambers Caroline was a research assistant with the commercial and common law team at the Law Commission. She worked almost exclusively on the team’s wide-reaching review of insurance contract law and contributed to several consultation and issues papers. She has particular experience of non-disclosure, misrepresentation and fraudulent claims.
She was awarded a Queen Mother Scholarship by Middle Temple in 2008. While taking the Bar Vocational Course she worked as a McKenzie Friend for the National Centre for Domestic Violence and as a FRU representative in the social security tribunal.
Civil
Caroline has a busy civil practice and acts in a wide range of matters, including RTAs and credit hire, contract, employment and insolvency disputes. She undertakes advisory work and is happy to accept instructions on a CFA. She has appeared in a large number of small claim and fast track trials, interlocutory applications and infant settlement hearings. She has appeared in the Companies Court and was recently instructed in a multi-track property dispute.
Caroline also represents parents and family members in applications for contact and residence. She is keen to develop her family and employment practice.
During pupillage Caroline assisted in a wide variety of clinical negligence, product liability and personal injury matters and gained substantial experience in these areas. She assisted in ongoing multi-party action relating to ruptured breast implants (PIP) and drafted advices and statements of case in complex injury cases, negligent cosmetic surgery claims and claims relating to accidents at work. She assisted in a Chancery Division trial involving a high-value partnership dispute and in claims against international private security companies arising from incidents in Iraq.
Criminal
During pupillage Caroline gained experience of complex fraud, death by careless or dangerous driving cases and disciplinary work.
She has experience in both the magistrates' and Crown Court and has appeared in preliminary hearings, sentencing hearings, magistrates’ court trials and Crown Court appeals. She has particular experience in driving offences and during pupillage successfully argued “special reasons” on appeal in a driving without insurance case.
