Nigel’s practice principally encompasses the prosecution and defence of serious and complex crime with a specific focus upon business crime. He has a wide range of experience in other areas notably employment and disciplinary proceedings.

He has been instructed in a number of high-profile and complex, multi-defendant cases in recent years including multi-million pound international frauds, drug importation cases and confiscation proceedings. In this regard, he has experience of working closely with both NCIS & SOCA on issues of complexity and sensitivity.

In Jersey he has advised on multi-jurisdictional financial issues and was instructed by the Attorney General of Jersey in a high profile international drugs conspiracy.

Currently appointed to the Attorney-General’s Unified List of Prosecution Counsel (Panel B), Nigel is also a Grade 3 Prosecutor for CPS London. He is Public Access trained.

Key cases

  • R v Obih: Currently instructed to prosecute the high profile murder of a Luton policeman. Led by Richard Latham QC

  • R v Considine [2007] EWCA Crim 1166; (2008) 1 Cr App R (S) 41: Led by the Attorney-General before a fully constituted Court of Appeal in a leading case on the assessment of dangerousness.

  • R v Nix & Ors (2005): The Lincoln Prison Riots. Successfully defended in the trial following the UK's largest ever prison mutiny

  • R v Tahir & Ors (2001) : Successfully prosecuted a £12 million Excise & VAT fraud involving 30 defendants.
