Kate is a highly experienced criminal junior having both prosecuted and defended cases involving all forms of serious crime including murder, rape, armed robbery, serious offences of violence, child cruelty and drug offences.

Kate is also regularly instructed in fraud cases, cases involving the evasion of VAT and cases involving money-laundering offences; as well as in matters of asset restraint, seizure and forfeiture under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

She was appointed to the Attorney General’s Unified List of Prosecuting Counsel in 2006.

Key recent cases

  • R v Paul White [2007] EWCA 1141: The Court of Appeal considered whether imprisonment for public protection appropriate in case where appellant convicted of manslaughter
  • AG Ref sub nom R v F: R v F (2007): The Court of Appeal considered the correct approach to sentencing where offences contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 2003 had been committed by adults against children who had ostensibly given their consent and appeared much older than their age
  • R v Mallard & Watson (2007): "The baby burning" case: representing the girlfriend of a man who tried to conceal non-accidental injuries to her four-month old baby by crashing and setting fire to a car with the baby inside
