Richard Latham QC and James House prosecuting in Murder Trial - 'Gang of youths lured vulnerable man'
18 October 2010
A 13-year-old girl was among a gang who lured a vulnerable Asperger's sufferer to a secluded spot where he was then brutally beaten to death, a jury has heard.
The girl now aged 14, four teenagers and two men are all accused of the murder of Shaun Rossington, 21, who was found on grassland in the Ermine area of Lincoln on June 3 this year.
Mr Rossington suffered 26 separate injuries including kicks and stamps to his head while he was lying face down on the ground.
Richard Latham QC, prosecuting, told jurors at Nottingham Crown Court that Mr Rossington, who had learning difficulties and was "vulnerable and gullible" was attacked in the early hours of June 3 this year.
Mr Latham said: "The prosecution case is that he was lured to the grassy area where he was found, arriving in all probability shortly before 2am and there, in that area, he was attacked by these defendants who were lying in wait for him.”
"All the defendants knew of the plan to lure him to the place where he was to die, and we allege all were aware the plan was, having got him there, he should be beaten up."
The trial continues.
