Serious Fraud

We have long been regarded as a pre-eminent set for fraud, with a reputation built on our involvement in some of the most serious criminal fraud cases of the last two decades including Blue Arrow, Britania Park, Polly Peck, Maxwell, Wallace Duncan Smith, Butte Mining, Wickes Plc and Palmer (the "Goldfinger" timeshare case).

We defend and prosecute in all types of serious fraud both in the United Kingdom and overseas. Our expertise encompasses fraudulent trading, mortgage fraud, investment fraud, VAT and revenue fraud, advance fee fraud and internet and copyright offences. Often instructed at the initial stage of any prosecution we bring to this field our linked expertise in civil fraud and commercial law.  Recognising the increasing use of civil remedies to tackle alleged fraud we are able to build teams of criminal and civil specialists to deal with the repercussions for individuals and companies when allegations of serious fraud are brought.

Recent cases include:

The Versailles fraud (arising from the collapse of Versailles Group Plc then valued at £630 million: R v Cushnie & Ors)

The Legal Aid fraud (a series of trials against the owner and employees of a solicitors' firm who defrauded the Legal Aid Board by manipulating the Green Form Scheme: R v Robinson & Ors)

The Jubilee Line Extension fraud (involving allegations that the defendants sought to obtain insider information relevant to the awards of multi-million pound contracts for the Jubilee Line extension project: R v Rayment & Ors)

The Independent Insurance fraud (arising from the collapse of Independent Insurance: R v Bright & Ors)

The Metal Markets fraud (a fraud by metal traders on banks in the United Kingdom and United States: R v Rastogi & Ors)

The Imperial Consolidated fraud (an alleged investment fraud with a total loss of £250 million to investors worldwide: R v Brook & Ors)
