Rob has an extensive common law practice. Although he is essentially a specialist in both criminal and civil trial advocacy, he is experienced in providing practical advice at all stages of the litigation process.
In the criminal courts, he acts for both prosecution and defence. His first visit to the Court of Appeal was in a successful appeal against sentence when still a pupil in chambers, and he was subsequently offered tenancy in October 2007. He has since been instructed by both the SFO and HM Revenue and Customs to work on complex fraud trials. In 2008, he spent six months on secondment to the Special Crime Division at CPS Headquarters, as a specialist prosecutor in extradition proceedings. He has since acted in extradition for both Requesting Judicial Authorities and Defendants, and has appeared in the Administrative Court. The expertise in human rights that is inherent to extradition law has in turn led to Rob being instructed by the Ministry of Defence in a judicial review of the treatment of Iraqi prisoners detained by the British Army.
In personal injury cases, Rob acts for claimant and defendant at all levels. He aims to provide realistic yet robust advice in all cases. Although he very frequently advises in fields such as employers’ and occupiers’ liability, he has a particular specialisation in more complex psychiatric harm cases, and credit hire litigation.
Rob advises on all areas of employment law, and has appeared for Claimant and Respondent, and in unfair and wrongful dismissal cases, including dismissals for gross misconduct. He also has a keen interest in family law. He has been instructed in a number of complex care cases, and appeared in contact hearings.
