James was recruited to join 7 Bedford Row in May 2010.  He is regarded as an exceptional jury advocate and is renowned for his patience and outstanding client skills. He has developed an extensive practice, both defending and prosecuting serious and substantial criminal cases including murder, manslaughter, sexual offences, drugs, firearms and fraud.

James also has specific expertise in cases involving clients who suffer with psychiatric illness or neurological conditions, including Schizophrenia, Aspergers Syndrome and Huntingtons Chorea.  He is regularly instructed by the Court to act on behalf of those found unfit to plead.

He also undertakes advice and instructions in cases seeking Judicial Review of cases with a criminal bias, for example decisions of the Parole Board.

James is the appointed officer responsible for implementing the Midland Circuit Continuing Education and Professional Development programme.
