Gina is a civil practitioner.  Her work in Chambers is divided across a number of practice areas, including family, immigration, claims against the police, employment and discrimination, community care, welfare benefits law, mental health, sports law and public law (admin), with a predominantly High Court practice. She represents her clients in many different types of court and is also involved in applications for judicial review. 

She uses her experience in civil courts to extend her work into other areas, such as contract disputes, negligence claims (including education negligence) and other civil claims.

Public Law

  • Judicial Review

Gina practises in all areas of public law and judicial review, local government law, European Union law and human rights law. She also practices extensively in education law regularly appearing in the Administrative Court in respect of all issues relating to secondary, further and higher education.   Gina’s latest cases include withdrawal of medical treatment; unlawful detention; immigration and deportation and criminal prosecution decisions.

Family Law

Gina is a reputable international family law practitioner, regularly instructed in the High Court in cases involving international parental child abduction and forced marriages, overseas divorces with foreign assets and has particular expertise in cases which involve family and immigration law.  She has been involved in several high profile national news cases and a number of other cases at the forefront of legal developments in the family field, the majority of which, incorporated publicity orders.

Court of Protection

Gina has an established practice in High Court cases, dealing with disputes over the welfare and property of adults lacking capacity under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. She also have experience of acting in inherent jurisdiction cases and provides urgent assistance in cases where capacity is in dispute, and where the welfare of an elderly, disabled or otherwise vulnerable person is at stake.

Recent cases include disputes over statutory wills; registration of powers of attorney; appointment of deputies; forced marriage; medical treatment decisions; deprivation of liberty (DOLS); and care,contactand residence. These involved ECHR Articles 5 and 8.

 

Employment / Discrimination

Gina represents both employees and employers in relation to unfair dismissal, redundancy and public interest disclosure. She has appeared in a number of complex and lengthy sex, race and disability discrimination cases involving public authorities and large employers.

 

Sports Law

Gina acted for a championship rugby club in high profile dispute over ground share agreement.
